Pegasus is a planned coastal town north of Christchurch, built largely on former farmland over the last decade. Almost every driveway we work on here is a new build on a recently developed section, rather than a replacement of an old surface. That changes the conversation — the question isn't "can we fix this?" but "what finish and layout will suit this house and section from day one?"

The ground in Pegasus is predominantly sand-based, sitting on the old beach plain. Sand compacts reasonably well but drains fast, which is good for keeping water away from the slab — but it also means the base course has to be properly specified and compacted so the surface doesn't shift over time. We typically lay 150–200mm of compacted AP40 or AP65 metal before any concrete pour or asphalt lay. Because most sections are flat and regular, the layout work is straightforward, but the finish standard matters: this is a new subdivision where every driveway is visible from the street.

Many Pegasus subdivisions have developer covenants that specify acceptable driveway finishes, colours and even materials. Exposed aggregate, coloured concrete and plain broom-finish all appear in the covenants we've worked to. If your section has a covenant, bring it to the quote and we'll make sure the finish you choose meets it — there's no point falling in love with a finish the developer won't sign off on.

Pegasus falls under Waimakariri District Council. New vehicle crossings need council approval and must be built to Waimakariri's specification. Because the town is still growing, the council is familiar with new-build crossing applications and the process is generally quick. We handle the application as part of the job.

Being a new town, a lot of our Pegasus work comes as a package — driveway, paths, patio and sometimes edging or landscaping, all done together as the house nears completion.
